Why the Insanity? Has the World Gone Nuts?

Is it just me, or is the world growing nuttier by the day? Why are so many in politics, entertainment, and academia behaving as if common sense, logic, and reason were dreadful plagues to be avoided at all costs? Why are insanity and muddle-minded nonsense celebrated by the elite?
